JCDL 2006 will be held in the Medical Biomolecular Research Building (Google Maps) on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Directions to the MBRB

From RDU airport

Take Airport Blvd to I-40. Take I-40 West and proceed for 10.6 miles. At exit 273 take the exit toward Chapel Hill (54 West). (At the top of the exit ramp, turn right.) After 2.9 miles 54W exits to your right after you pass under a bridge. Take the exit to the right up the ramp and bear right onto the continuation of 54W and 15/501 South. After approximately 1 mile (at the second stoplight) you will come to a large intersection; take a right onto Manning Drive. At the fourth traffic signal, turn left (Neuroscience Hospital will be on your right) onto East Drive. East Drive becomes Mason Farm Road. Follow Mason Farm Road behind the parking decks and under a pedestrian overpass. Look for a tall brick building ahead on the left (EPA building) and the MBRB is on the right. Limited parking may be found along Mason Farm Rd, as well as in front of the Ambulatory Care Center. The Dogwood Parking Deck is a pay lot. The MBRB is connected to the Neuroscience Research Building.

From 15-501/54

Turn onto Manning Drive at a traffic signal off of 15-501/54. (You can only turn one direction onto Manning Drive.) Turn left at the fourth traffic signal. (The Neuroscience Hospital will be on your right) onto East Drive. East Drive becomes Mason Farm Road. Follow Mason Farm Road behind the parking decks, and under a pedestrian overpass. Look for a tall brick building ahead on the left (EPA building) and the MBRB is on the right. Limited parking may be found along Mason Farm Rd, as well as in front of the Ambulatory Care Center. The Dogwood Parking Deck is a pay lot. The MBRB is connected to the Neuroscience Research Building.

Coming from Franklin Street/Carolina Inn by vehicle

Follow Pittsboro Street (one-way street) and cross S. Columbia Street at the traffic signal. You are now on Manning Drive. Take the first right (West Drive; one way street). Turn right onto Mason Farm Road. Look for a tall brick building ahead on the left (EPA building) and the MBRB is on the right. Limited parking may be found along Mason Farm Rd, as well as in front of the Ambulatory Care Center. The Dogwood Parking Deck is a pay lot. The MBRB is connected to the Neuroscience Research Building.

Walking from the Carolina Inn

Walk south on Columbia Street. Turn left onto Manning Drive. Just after the first building on your left, turn left onto the walkway between buildings. Look for signs to guide you to the MBRB.

Bus Service

Chapel Hill Transit operates Mon.-Fri., 6am-8pm (with some evening and weekend service); closed on Town holidays. A cooperative agency of the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro and the University of North Carolina that operates local public transit services around Chapel Hill, Carrboro and the UNC campus and from five Park-and-Ride lots listed below. All rides are free.

  • Carrboro Plaza Shopping Center—Intersection of NC Highway 54 West and West Main St.
  • Eubanks Rd—Off NC Highway 86 North, just south of the eastbound exit (266) of Interstate 40.
  • Friday Center for Continuing Education—Friday Center Dr, off NC Highway 54 East.
  • Jones Ferry Rd—At the intersection of Old Fayetteville Rd.
  • Southern Village—Off US Highway 15-501 South, 3/4-mi. south of NC Highway 54 West.

Parking

Parking in and around the UNC Chapel Hill campus can be troublesome, so it pays to plan ahead. The following are some resources to help you find a good place to park.

UNC Chapel Hill Campus

Visitors to the University may park in pay lots or in specially marked metered spaces along selected streets on campus. Metered spaces can be found along Country Club Rd, Raleigh St, Ridge Rd and South Rd. For more information, visit the UNC Chapel Hill visitors’ center or call (919) 962-3951.

Town of Chapel Hill

The Town of Chapel Hill offers more than 850 parking spaces throughout the central business district. Rates in the staffed facilities are $.65 per half hour (first 4 hours), $1.30 per hour (4-6 hours) and $1.80 per hour (over six hours). Additional charges may apply.
